Orchids in flower: Bee*, Hybrid (Dactylorhiza x grandis), Southern Marsh*.
Birds seen during this visit to the reserve were few, just a single Great Tit on the reserve, but a bird of a different kind flew low overhead. This was probably the largest bird ever recorded from the reserve and whilst not uncommon over the Peak District, is the first record from the Jim Mart reserve: Hercules.
Butterflies: Large Skipper (10+), Meadow Brown (1), Small White (1), Speckled Wood (1).
Moths: Blood-vein, Common Carpet, Latticed Heath, Middle-barred Minor.
Damselflies: Azure, Large Red.
Hoverflies: Helophilus pendulus (probably), Marmalade (Episyrphus balteatus).
* One of each of these orchids was found, new to our records, by Nikki Mahadevan on the 19th June. Three more Bee Orchids were found at two new locations during today’s visit, by Peter Faulkner.
