Recorder’s report – November 2024

A total of 95 species were reported in November with the following notable sightings:

Bearded Tit – 4th, 5th, 6th and 8th of the month with a maximum of 8 birds; only the second record at Ogston Res, Black-headed Gull – max of 1100 in the roost on 17th., Black-tailed Godwit (2 on the 3rd), Brambling (max of 4 on 3 dates, all at Highoredish), Caspian Gull (max of 2 on 8 dates), Chiffchaff (max of 3 on 6 dates), Common Gull (max of 4 on 10 dates), Curlew (1 on 11th), Dunlin (on 6 dates, with 5 on 10th), Fieldfare (on 8 dates, max of 329 at Highoredish), Goldeneye (on 22 dates, max of 7 on 13th), Goosander (on 18 dates, max of 52 on 30th), Goshawk (on 4 dates), Great Black-backed Gull (1 on 1st), Great White Egret (1 on 2 dates), Grey Plover (1 on 5th), Hawfinch (on 8 dates, with max of 9 on 5th at Brackenfield), Herring Gull (max of 110 on 17th), Knot (1 on 6th), Lesser Redpoll (on 7 dates, max of 13 at Highoredish), Little Egret (1 on 2 dates), Little Owl (1 on 2 dates), Peregrine (1 on 2 dates), Pink-footed Goose (on 3 dates, max of 150), Pintail (1 on 5 dates), Pochard (up to 5 on 7 dates), Raven (up to 2 on 12 dates), Red-crested Pochard (1 on 2nd and 3rd), Redshank (4 on 10th), Redwing (on 19 dates, max of 1101 at Highoredish), Shelduck (on 2 dates with 3 on 10th), Shoveler (on 10 dates with 11 on 23rd), Siskin (on 5 dates), Snipe (on 23 dates, with a max of 18), Starling (max of 1000 in reed-bed roost on 5th), Stonechat (1 female, almost daily since 12th), Water Rail (1 almost daily since 17th), Whooper Swan (6 on 9th), Wigeon (on 19 dates, max of 14), Willow Tit (up to 3 birds on 10 dates), Yellow-legged Gull (1 on 9 dates)

Also Shorelark – 1 on 7th – if accepted by DOS Rarities committee will be first ever record at Ogston Res.
