For those members who are not going on the annual club outing to the Ladybower Reservoir, the alternative destination of the Jim Mart Nature Reserve could be worth trying. Like Ladybower, our reserve has a reservoir and, whilst Ring Ouzel and Goshawk might be promising too much, there is the distinct possibility of seeing the first of the spring’s warblers, a good chance of Buzzard and also the possibility of hare. A guide will be available to show you how to get the most from your visit, including the opportunity to gain first-hand experience of conservation management activities – this month we are undertaking path, bank and wall restoration, and continuing with grassland recovery work.
To help out at the work party, meet at the reserve on Saturday, 21st March, at 9:30 am. We will finish around lunchtime.
All members are welcome and no previous experience is necessary. Please wear appropriate work clothes, stout shoes, boots or wellies, and gardening gloves or equivalent. Appropriate tools to bring, although some are available, would be loppers, rake, garden fork or spade.
Organised work parties take place at the Jim Mart reserve on the morning of the third Saturday in every month, except in December. For further information visit the Jim Mart NR pages on the Ogston Bird Club website https://ogstonbirdclub.co.uk/ , or contact Peter Faulkner by email ([email protected]) or by telephone (0784 214 8888).
