Meeting Point: Car Park at Blacktoft Reserve on the Ouse near to Goole Time: 09:30, Lunch: bring packed lunch and drink, Transport: Members cars Cost: free for RSPB members, £5 non-members, Leader: Martin Kaye
Notes: A one hour 15 min easy drive from Chesterfield up the M1 then M18 to junction 36 on the M62. The last 10 miles are a bit slow (15 min) but are well signed (see map).
7 hides and a small visitors’ centre selling drinks and hiring binoculars. All flat, easy going. This is one of the best reserves in the country to see Marsh Harriers and at this time of year is usually good for seeing Bearded Tits with fledged youngsters.
Up to date details can be found by clicking on the link to the RSPB website below or by Twitter @Blacktoft_Sands.
On the return journey, if there’s time and it’s sunny, we could drop into Potteric Carr near Doncaster (2 minutes from junction 3 on the M18) to have a look for dragonflies. Note, unless you are a member of a Wildlife Trust, entry would cost a few quid.
