This page aims to provide a daily update on bird sightings for Ogston Reservoir.
It typically provides details of some of the more notable sightings, however sightings for all species are very important to us so please submit these to the Recording Secretary (see details below).
Please note that records of certain sensitive species may not be published here (for the club’s ‘Sensitive species’ list please refer to the ‘Policies and Procedures’ section of the website).
However ALL records received are entered into the Ogston Bird Club database and subsequently submitted to the Derbyshire Ornithological Society (DOS) and Derbyshire Wildlife Trust (DWT).

The highlight was a Merlin that flew through mid-morning. Also c100 Canada Geese & 46 Greylags, 4 Gadwall, 1 Shoveler, 30 Pochard, 23 Tufteds, 3 Goldeneye, 5 Little & 5 G.C.Grebes and c40 Lapwings.

1stW drake Shoveler, 24 Pochard, c25 Tufted Ducks, 1 Goldeneye, 2 Goosander, Water Rail,  juv Peregrine and an adult Mediterranean Gull in the roost, the first one this winter.

An adult Whooper Swan arrived mid-morning, 3 Wigeon, 3 Gadwall, 21 Pochard, 24 Tufteds, 2 Goldeneye, 2 Goosander,6 Little Grebes, 3 G.C.Grebes (including one in breeding plumage), 51 Lapwings, f.Stonechat, Skylark & Redpoll over.

Two adult Whooper Swans were present early morning but departed SSE at 0955. Also 119 Canada Geese, 75 Greylags, 2 Goldeneye including a nice drake, a pair of displaying Sparrowhawks, A Skylark flew N and the female Stonechat still present.
