Recorder’s report – September 2024

A total of 102 species reported in September at Ogston Reservoir and the wider recording area with the following notable sightings:

Arctic Skua (1 dark morph bird on 5th), Bar-tailed Godwit (1 on 5th), Black Tern (juvenile on 2nd), Caspian Gull (on 14 days across the month), Common Gull (on 5 days across the month), Common Sandpiper (1 on 9th and 11th), Common Scoter (on 3 days, with maximum of 3 birds), Common Tern (juvenile on 1st and 5th), Cormorant (272 on 13th is a site record), Curlew (1 on 1st), Dunlin (on 7 days, maximum of 3 birds), Goosander (on 5 days with a maximum of 14 birds), Goshawk (2 on 16th), Great White Egret (on 5 days with a maximum of 2 birds), Green Woodpecker (1 on 6th), Greenshank (juvenile on 4th), Hobby (1 on 14th), House Martin (max of 369 on 25th at Highoredish), Kingfisher (almost daily with a maximum of 2 birds), Little Egret (almost daily with a maximum of 2 birds), Little Owl (on 5 days), Mandarin Duck (144 birds on 3rd), Marsh Harrier (1 on 9th), Meadow Pipit (530 seen on 25th at Highoredish), Merlin (1 on 27th), Osprey (up to 2 birds on 2nd and 3rd), Pink-footed Goose (1 on 12th), Peregrine (1 bird on 2 days), Pochard (up to 2 birds on 2 days), Raven (on 6 days), Redshank (1 on 11th), Ringed Plover (1 on 22nd), Ruff (on 2nd and 5th, maximum of 3 birds), Sandwich Tern (1 on 5th), Shelduck (on 3 days), Siskin (1o at Highoredish on 25th), Skylark (8 at Highoredish on 25th), Snipe (up to 5 birds on 15 days), Spotted Flycatcher (1 on 1st), Stonechat (1 on 28th), Swallow (on 22 days with a maximum of 203 birds), Tawny Owl (1 on 3rd), Teal (on 27 days with a maximum of 52 birds), Treecreeper (on 1st and 3rd), Turnstone (1 on 9th), Wheatear (1 on 5 days), Wigeon (up to 4 birds on 9 days), Willow Tit (on 3 days), Yellow-browed Warbler (1 at Highoredish on 28th), Yellow-legged Gull (up to 2 birds on 16 days)
