A surprise in the form of a first-summer male Black Redstart that appeared in front of the Member’s Hide at 1015 and showed well for a few minutes on rocks, posts etc. before continuing on south down the west bank. Only the sixth record here and the first in mid-summer, not a traditional time for ‘Black Reds’ in the UK. Also 2 Mute Swans, 108 Canada & 72 Greylag Geese, 1 Teal, 1 Mandarin, at least 3 Little Egrets, 2 different Ospreys in the morning; the first caught fish at 0955 and the second ( the new arrival without a blue colour-ring but with a BTO ring and probably a female) from just before midday onwards, a Goshawk, 2 Oystercatchers, 1 Common Sand and a light passage of Sand Martins to the south-west.
