Big news today was that both the Lapwings and the Little Ringeds on the island have hatched chicks – at least three of each. They look so vulnerable, it’s a wonder any survive at all. Fingers crossed. Also 4 Mute Swans, 143 Greylags, 128 Canada Geese, Ffour Mandarin broods of 8,8,6&2, 2 Gadwall, an increase to 29 Tufteds and with them the drake Tufted/Pochard hybrid that has been present on & off for quite a few years now, 3 Oystercatchers (pair plus chick, seems the family of four have now left), 42 Lapwings, 13 LRPlovers, Common Sand, 50+ Swifts and a Lesser Whitethroat.
