This page aims to provide a daily update on bird sightings for Ogston Reservoir.
It typically provides details of some of the more notable sightings, however sightings for all species are very important to us so please submit these to the Recording Secretary (see details below).
Please note that records of certain sensitive species may not be published here (for the club’s ‘Sensitive species’ list please refer to the ‘Policies and Procedures’ section of the website).
However ALL records received are entered into the Ogston Bird Club database and subsequently submitted to the Derbyshire Ornithological Society (DOS) and Derbyshire Wildlife Trust (DWT).

2 Wigeon, 10 Gadwall, 6 Goldeneye and a Raven. Late news for Sunday (28th) a male Goshawk north of the res. and an adult Mediterranean Gull in the roost.

76 Canada & 34 Greylag Geese, 32 Teal, 10 Gadwall, 3 Shoveler, 2 Wigeon, 30 Tufteds, 18 Pochard, 6 Goldeneye, 2 Oystercatchers and 25 occupied nests in the heronry.

Two Red Kites were soaring east of the res @1120, the first this year. Also 4 Gadwall, 2 Mandarins, 2 Goldeneye, 6 G.C.Grebes, 2 Oystercatchers and the male Brambling on the hide feeders.

2 Gadwall, 3 Goldeneye, c160 Lapwings, 2 Oystercatchers, a Curlew, a Raven, 2 Dippers on the river, single Brambling & 4 Tree Sparrows. A small calidrid, probably a Dunlin, flew high south.
