This page aims to provide a daily update on bird sightings for Ogston Reservoir.
It typically provides details of some of the more notable sightings, however sightings for all species are very important to us so please submit these to the Recording Secretary (see details below).
Please note that records of certain sensitive species may not be published here (for the club’s ‘Sensitive species’ list please refer to the ‘Policies and Procedures’ section of the website).
However ALL records received are entered into the Ogston Bird Club database and subsequently submitted to the Derbyshire Ornithological Society (DOS) and Derbyshire Wildlife Trust (DWT).

Highlight was a fly-through flock of thirteen Dunlin heading NE at 1142, also 2 Wigeon, 5 Gadwall, 6 Tufteds, 5 Pochard, 5 Goldeneye, a drake Goosander, 2 Oystercatchers and 16 Fieldfare.

45 Canada & 36 Greylag Geese, 8 Gadwall, 4 Shoveler, 42 Teal, 8 Pochard, 11 Tufteds, 4 Goldeneye, 39 Lapwings, 4 Oystercatchers, 6+ C.Buzzards, 1 Peregrine and the juv. male Goshawk soaring over South Hill for some time with a Buzzard.

8 Gadwall, 2 Wigeon, 10 Tufteds, 8 Pochard, 3 Goldeneye, 1 Goosander, 9 G.C.Grebes, male Goshawk north of the res., the third time in a week, 3 Sparrowhawks, 1 Curlew, 1 Oystercatcher and 4 Redwings.

A Red Kite went through early morning and an adult Kittiwake was in the roost. 26 Pinkfeet flew west at 0930-40, 1 Goldeneye, possibly as many as 16 C.Buzzards, 2 Curlews and two Ravens.
