This page aims to provide a daily update on bird sightings for Ogston Reservoir.
It typically provides details of some of the more notable sightings, however sightings for all species are very important to us so please submit these to the Recording Secretary (see details below).
Please note that records of certain sensitive species may not be published here (for the club’s ‘Sensitive species’ list please refer to the ‘Policies and Procedures’ section of the website).
However ALL records received are entered into the Ogston Bird Club database and subsequently submitted to the Derbyshire Ornithological Society (DOS) and Derbyshire Wildlife Trust (DWT).

4 Wigeon, 5 Goldeneye, 1 Water Rail on pool N of main hide, 110+ Fieldfares in fields opposite the West Bank.

Wednesday 5th November 2014

A total of 2370 Pink-footed Geese in 19 skeins flew SE over Highoredish, also 2 Goshawks there (ad male and juv male), at the reservoir 1 fem Gadwall, 3 redhead Goosanders.

Tuesday 4th November 2014

1 Goosander, 1 Peregrine, 1 ad Yellow-legged Gull, migrants over Highoredish included 2044 Woodpigeon, 47 Skylarks, 23 Chaffinch, 1 Brambling, 11 Redpolls.

Monday 3rd November 2014

122 Teal, 132 Mallard,10 Tufted Ducks, 1 Goldeneye, 1 Goosander, 1 Peregrine, 125 Lapwings.

Sunday 2nd November 2014

3 Wigeon, 97 Teal, 29 Snipe, 1 Kingfisher and the escaped Yellow-billed Teal still present. At Highoredish 62 Herring Gulls flew SW, 127 Fieldfare SW, 143 Redwings SW, 93 Starlings W and 1 Goshawk.

Saturday 1st November 2014

4 Wigeon, 2 Shovelers, 1 Pochard, migrants over Highoredish included 1533 Woodpigeon, 693 Redwings, 43 Fieldfares and 92 Starlings.

Friday 31st October 2014

10 Whooper Swans (7 adults & 3 juvs) were present early morning but flew off NE at 07:33 hrs, 4 Wigeon, 2 Shovelers, 2 Pochards. Migrants over Highoredish included  2760 Redwings, 444 Fieldfares, 54 Chaffinch, and 3 Brambling.
