Moth Trapping JMNR 29th August

The moth trap was set up by the garden hedge, hide end, on the evening of 29/08/15 and was  emptied 6.20 am the following morning. 10ºC wind calm, recorder N Mahadevan.

6 Small Square-spot, 1 Dark Fruit-tree Tortix, 1 Yellow Shell, 9 Large Yellow Underwing, 4 Square-spot Rustic, Silver-y, 1 Agriphila tristella.  The tortrix was a first record for the site. Also  in the trap were several species of Caddisfly and an interesting little insect, a springtail Pogonognathellus longicornis, in the trap which apparently coils up its antennae if you blow on it gently.

Further early morning sightings on 30th August:
Moths: Common Roller Anclis badiana,  Golden Argent Argyresthia goedartella
Other insects: Tree Damselbug and a moth fly (psychodidae sp.) on the Guelder Rose. Quite a few Neuroctena anilis particularly on Hogweed stems.near the hide.
