Recorder’s report: MARCH 2026

In total, 86 species were reported during March, from a total of 1136 sightings.

The total for the year now stands at 103 species from 3534 sightings.

Most notable sightings across the month were:

Blackcap (first report on 20th, with 4 subsequent sightings), Brambling (1 on 1st), Chiffchaff (almost daily), Common Scoter (1 male on 30th), Curlew (on 18 dates with a maximum of 32), Goldeneye (almost daily with a maximum of 7), Goosander (on 10 dates with a maximum of 5), Great White Egret (1 on 14th), House Martin (1st sighting on 28th, with 3 subsequent sightings), Mute Swan (on 4 dates with a maximum of 4), Oystercatcher (almost daily, with a maximum of 5), Pochard (1 on 7th), Raven (up to 3 on 8 dates), Red Kite (on 8 dates), Redshank (1 on 23rd), Sand Martin (1st sighting on 26th with max of 3 birds on 4 other dates), Scaup (1 on 21st and 22nd), Shelduck (on 2 dates), Shoveler (on 4 dates with a maximum of 2), Snipe (almost daily, up to 13 birds), Swallow (1st sighting on 25th, then daily with a mx of 7), Water Rail (on 4 dates), Wigeon (on 5 dates with a maximum of 2), Willow Tit (on 11 dates).
