Recorder’s report: December 2025

Thanks to everyone who contributed to the December reports, as always its very much appreciated.

A total of 87 species were reported from a total of 1382 sightings.  This compares with 86 species from 841 sightings for the same period in 2024.

The provisional total for the year is 160 species from a total of 17711 sightings.

Blackcap (single birds on 3 dates), Black-headed Gull (3300 birds noted in the evening roost on 4th), Brambling (up to 2 birds on 2 dates), Caspian Gull (max of 2 on 6 dates), Chiffchaff (max of 3 birds on 15 dates), Common Gull (max of 9 birds on 12 dates), Egyptian Goose (max of 8 birds on 2 dates), Fieldfare (max of 17 on 6 dates), Goldeneye (max of 5 birds, reported almost daily), Goosander (max of 38 reported almost daily), Goshawk (on 3 occasions), Great Black-backed Gull (max of 6 on 14 dates), Hawfinch (1 on 2nd), Kingfisher (single birds on 2 dates), Lapwing (max count of 200, reported almost daily), Linnet (max of 200 on 12 dates), Little Egret (2 on 3rd), Little Owl (on 3 occasions), Mediterranean Gull (1 on 6th), Pochard (max of 30 on 16 dates), Raven (max of 2 on 13 dates), Red Kite (single birds on 2 dates), Redpoll (max of 30 on 17 dates), Redwing (max count of 70, reported almost daily), Shag (1 juvenile reported on 13th and 14th), Shelduck (1 on 22nd), Shoveler (max of 2 on 3 dates), Siskin (max of 50 on 17 dates), Snipe (max of 9 on 20 dates), Treecreeper (max of 2 on 12 dates), Water Rail (single bird on 18 dates), White-fronted Goose (9 on 24th), Wigeon (max of 7 on 13 dates), Willow Tit (max of 2 on 23 dates), Yellowhammer (single birds on 2 dates), Yellow-legged Gull (single birds on 2 dates).
