Week 14 and things are really heating up now, 26 degrees Centigrade in the morning, with butterfly numbers doubling since the last recording visit. Nikki Mahadevan was the lucky surveyor, and found 2 Small Skipper, 8 Large Skipper, 1 Red Admiral, 3 Speckled Wood, 7 Meadow Brown and 16 Ringlet.
Moths can also be recorded during the survey, but this can turn out to be quite a challenge due to the problem of identification and sheer numbers of flying insects! Nikki recorded 2 Chimney Sweeper, 1 Latticed Heath, and 1 Garden Carpet.
Also seen: Blue-tailed Damselflies, Large Red Damselflies, 2 Brown Hawkers, and c100 Azure Damselflies in tandem on the Bottom Pond.
