Sunny intervals and 18C.
Birds: Blackbird, Blue Tit, Chaffinch, Chiffchaff, Dunnock, Goldfinch, Great Spotted Woodpecker, Moorhen, Robin, 2 (Common) Whitethroat collecting food, Wood Pigeon.
Butterflies: Green-veined White (1), Peacock (1).
Moths: Common Marble (2), Common Nettle-tap (10+), Grass Rivulet (4), Latticed Heath (1), Silver-ground Carpet (10+), Silver Y (1), Small Yellow Underwing (1).
Damselflies/Dragonflies: Broad-bodied Chaser, Large Red Damselfly, and large numbers of blue damselflies including Azure Damselfly.
Other: Golden-bloomed Grey Longhorn Beetle, Juvenile Frog, Garden Snail.
Plants: A few plants which are less common around the reserve: A hybrid Spotted Orchid Dactylorhiza fuchsii x praetermissa = D. x grandis which is a cross between Common-spotted Orchid and Southern Marsh Orchid (BP)*, Cut-leaved Cranesbill Geranium dissectum (parking area), Dame’s Violet Hesperis matronalis (H1), Columbine Aquilegia vulgaris (just one plant of the wine-coloured variety near H4), Monkey Flower Mimulus guttatus (in the brook).
* This raises the question of where it’s parents are in the locality, or how it arrived at the Bottom Pond given that it is a mature orchid but has only been seen in flower recently. If anyone has any information about this, please contact Peter Faulkner or leave a message in the hide log book, anonymously if preferred!
