A 20W actinic Heath trap was set up at the base of the butterfly bank on the evening of 10th August and emptied the following morning. 2 Tawny owls could be heard calling off-site and a Barn owl (possibly on-site). A couple of Common Pipistrelle bats were flying around.
25 Species of moth were recorded including 4 new site records (shown in bold):
Pyrausta aurata 1, Lesser Broad-bordered Yellow Underwing 3, Udea Lutealis 2, Agriphila tristella 2, Celypha lacunana 4, Dingy Footman 3, Straw Underwing 1, Yellow Shell 1, Six-striped Rustic 1, Swallow Prominent 1, Straw Dot 1, Large Yellow Underwing 9, Agriphila Straminella 2, Pebble Prominent 1, Canary Shouldered Thorn 1, Purple Thorn 1, Garden Grass Veneer 1, Common Rustic agg. 1, Rosy Rustic 1, Shaded Broad-bar 1, Acleris laterana/Comariana 1, Blastobasis adustella 1, Red Twin-spot Carpet 1 and a Bactra sp. 1.

Early morning sightings after emptying the trap:
Overhead – Raven, Buzzard and Swift; Blackbird, Robin, Blue tit, Great tit, Woodpigeon, Pheasant (heard), Goldfinch. Dock Bug, Hawthorn Shieldbug, Red-legged Shieldbug. Speckled Wood 1, Green-veined White 1, Gatekeeper 3. Latticed Heath, a looper caterpillar swept from Bullace tree, and Acleris emargana (Scalloped Tortrix moth) swept from Poplar sp. tree.
