This page aims to provide a daily update on bird sightings for Ogston Reservoir.
It typically provides details of some of the more notable sightings, however sightings for all species are very important to us so please submit these to the Recording Secretary (see details below).
Please note that records of certain sensitive species may not be published here (for the club’s ‘Sensitive species’ list please refer to the ‘Policies and Procedures’ section of the website).
However ALL records received are entered into the Ogston Bird Club database and subsequently submitted to the Derbyshire Ornithological Society (DOS) and Derbyshire Wildlife Trust (DWT).

Ten Goldeneye were fresh in with a family group of Mute Swans, 2 ads & 2 juvs and a Rock Pipit was heard.

42 Redwings south, c95 Starlings SW and three Skylarks S before the rain set in. Also a drake Goldeneye, Goosander, ad Yellow-l-Gull, 2 Ravens and the Red-breasted Goose.

The hides were much appreciated this morning in the heavy rain, good weather for ducks. 94 Teal, 10 Gadwall, 8 Wigeon, 3 f. Pochard, 1 Goldeneye, 1 f. Mandarin and 5 Shelduck with 5 Snipe and a Grey Wagtail.

An ad Red-breasted Goose with 68 Greylags was an  undoubted  escape but beautiful none the less. Also ad Yellow-l-Gull, c20 Skylarks south and a Redpoll.
